I've been cleaning up my hard drive files and decided to organize my work online also. I will be moving paintings from my Daily Painting Blog which are larger than the usual daily work to this blog.

Cerra Pedernal

8" by 10" daily oil painting, unframed

The cerra pedernal is part of the Jemez mountains in New Mexico. This was the view from the house we rented in Abiquiu, NM.
Once I looked at the photo I realized that Georgia O'Keeffe (who was famous for painting this mountain) probably stood near the same spot while she painted. I compared the photo with her painting and the angle seemed to be the same.

I've always had a fondness for hilly landscapes and clouds are one of my favorite subjects.

This is an older piece which I never posted. I recently photographed some of my older works because the images I had from a few years ago were not accurate. My newer camera does a much better job.

A number of years ago my son and I traveled to Sedona, Arizona. I took a picture of these shacks at Red Rock state park. The flowers were an addition from my imagination.

I was very happy to receive a Jack Richeson Award at The Connecticut Pastel Society's member show yesterday for my "Raven" painting.

This has been a goal of mine for the past 2 years.
The competition is fierce! I wasn't sure about entering a surreal painting since I haven't seen any surreal work in the member shows. I debated over entering a piece that I thought the judge would like (as if I'd know!) or one that I felt best represented my work. I went with the latter and I'm glad I did.
The show will be open from March 1 thru March 21 at Gallery 53, Colony Street, Meriden, Ct.
The reception took place yesterday and I saw some amazing work by other pastel painters.

I've been working with oils lately. This is a gift for my husband on a 36" x 36" canvas.It has a long way to go before it's finished. I thought you might enjoy seeing the work in progress.When I finish this I'll post it and get to work on a large pastel painting.=I'm having a blast with this one.

I wish I had a larger scanner. Although the colors closely represent the painting there is still quite a bit lost from the original to a digital image (as with all digital representations of paintings).
I may try scanning it in parts. . .then again . . . .

I loved working on this painting. All those little shapes at first were just patches of color and eventually mimicked a village.

I used a photo for reference. I've never been to Greece but it's a place my husband and I wish to visit someday.
